Activity Leadership Coaching Apprenticeship Level 2 at The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London

Course description

The OCR Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity leadership is suitable for those working in either the outdoors or in sports development, operating at 'assistant instructor' (or equivalent) level. Learners will be capable of planning and delivering activity sessions and carrying out related duties with limited supervision, but within a controlled environment. 

Course content

The units will be delivered on the job and through a fully qualified Assessor that we supply through the College.

Completion of this qualification will give learners the opportunity to progress to the NVQ Level 3 Sports Development and NVQ Level 3 Leisure Management.

Entry requirements

Coaching and leadership in the workplace employment and a keen interest and experience within a sporting environment. This qualification is available to anyone who is capable of reaching the required standards. It has been developed free from any barriers that restrict access or progression thereby promoting equal opportunities. 

All centre staff involved in the assessment or delivery of this qualification should understand the requirements of the qualification and match them to the needs and capabilities of individual candidates before entering them as candidates for this qualification.  There are no formal requirements for entry to this qualification.


This qualification is assessed through verification. You will be expected to demonstrate your ability to meet the requirements of each unit in a number of ways. You will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence that meets the requirements of the learning outcomes against the stated assessment criteria. The evidence can either come from naturally occurring activities in your work place or your centre might devise tasks for you to complete.

Future opportunities

This qualification has been designed for those working in the Sport, Recreation and Active Leisure sector and is suitable for staff/volunteers who prepare sessions which introduce and lead people in an activity, make sure the working environment is healthy and safe and promote people’s personal and social development.
