Music Industries (Performance) BTEC Level 3 at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College

Course description

The BTEC 90-Credit Diploma in Music is a standalone level 3 qualification and it is also the first year of the BTEC Extended Diploma in Music, which provides learners with an opportunity to study a broad range of areas and skills related to popular music. Course content

Our experienced staff are practicing musicians who specialise in differing areas; from theory and song-writing to recording and performance, giving you a unique opportunity to benefit from their own specialist skills. The Extended Diploma modules have been listed here for your convenience as the two courses are intertwined. On the BTEC Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in music you will be studying; Instrumental Tuition (first Instrument only), Group Performance Skills, Group Rehearsal Skills and Listen

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade A-C (one preferable in English) and appropriate instrumental skills on one main instrument (this will be assessed during the interview process).


You will be assessed through your written work, presentations, theory tests, rehearsals and practical recitals continually throughout the year. There are no end of year tests.

Financial information

We have three purpose built rehearsal rooms and a recording studio each containing drum kits, guitar amps, keyboards and P.A’s ready for you to jump in and start playing. Each band will receive their own iPad with multiple apps to aid the rehearsal process from straight internet access to apps that allow you to manipulate tempo, key and even isolate parts so you can better learn the tracks. You will need your instrument (drummers breakable only), a lead, a tuner, 8Gb memory stick.

We offer a bursary that students can apply for help with costs that are associated with a course. This could be help with the cost of travel, books, materials, equipment, uniforms, childcare and examination and registration fees. Future opportunities

Candidates who successfully complete the BTEC Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in Music(Performing) will need to progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music to gain the full level 3 qualification before moving onto HNC, HND, Foundation Degree or Degree.

The BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Music (Performing) is a one year qualification and will require full-time attendance. It is important to note that to get the full 3 A-levels you will need to then complete the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music (Performing) for a further one year, full-time.
