Course description

Politics is a subject that both unites and divides. It deals with issues that are directly relevant to all our lives – like health, education, crime, war and the economy. Government and Politics is popular with students who enjoy current affairs, debates and discussions, and who wish to study a subject that is vibrant and exciting.

Course content

Year 12

  • People & Politics: Democracy, Elections, Pressure Groups and Party Policies.
  • Governing the UK: The Constitution, Parliament, the Prime Minister and The Judiciary

Year 13

  • Representative Processes in the USA: Elections, Political Parties, Pressure Groups and Racial & Ethnic Politics.
  • Governing the USA: The Constitution, Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court.

Entry requirements

5 A* - C at GCSE

C grade in GCSE English or any Humanities subject
