Hairdressing City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma (VRQ) at South Downs College

Course description

This course is designed for both 16-19 year olds who are interested in Hairdressing.

You will learn all Ladies practical Hairdressing skills required for a Salon environment, such as cutting, perming, colouring consultation and diagnosis and blow-drying/ setting skills.

Hairdressing theory, related science, Health and Safety, retailing & customer services and client consultation will also be covered.

  • Create an image based on a theme within the Hair and Beauty Sector
  • Salon Reception Services
  • Skills development

Entry requirements

A minimum of three GCSEs at grade C including English and Science. You will also need to have a minimum of grade D in GCSE Mathematics.

Assessment

Practical assessments will be performed on paying clients to ensure competence. Oral questioning will take place at the time of the practical assessment. All practical assessments will be graded based on performance to either Pass, Merit or Distinction.

You are required to keep a record of achievement log book as evidence of Hairdressing skills performed, this will form the basis of your portfolio.  Mandatory exams – there are online tests for some units of the course and other units are covered by assignments.

 

Future opportunities

Providing you have successfully completed the course you will be able to apply to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing.

Those students who do not wish to go on to Level 3 can obtain employment within the Hairdressing Industry.

Further information

You will need a compulsory uniform which is to be worn at all times to both theory and practical classes (the style is determined by the College). For theory classes you will need paper, pens and an A4 ring binder.

Salon hairdressing tools/ equpiment can be purchased on course commencement.

All students will be expected to comply with the hairdressing code of dress. Facial piercings are not acceptable in the Salon or in theory classes. Child care is available in the South Downs College Nursery. Places are limited so ensure that you make arrangements as soon as possible.
