Course description

Why study Economics?

Economics is at the heart of what drives many decisions in our modern world. Economics is the study of how an economy operates and how individuals and firms make economic decisions. It looks at the use of the world’s resources and gives you an understanding of the causes and consequences of inflation, unemployment and balance of payment deficits. If you want to learn about the functioning of the UK economy and the global economic system, you will enjoy this subject.

What do I study?

You will study a range of topics including: How markets work, Economic methodology and the economic problem, Market failure and Business Economics, Managing the UK economy, Global Economy and Fiscal Policy

Economics Where next? 

This course is suitable for higher education in Economics or related subjects such as Finance Accountancy, Management or Business. Students are also able to progress to work based training or employment in financial institutions or other banking, accounts or management related careers. Economics graduates often work within the following sectors: accountancy, banking, finance and related professions.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A* - C, including English and Maths. However as there is a strong mathematical content to this A Level, it is strongly recommended that you have at least a grade B in Maths to ensure success.
