Performing Arts Level 3 (Musical Theatre) BTEC Extended Diploma at Accrington and Rossendale College

Course description

This two year, full time course is designed to give students practical experience in Performing Arts backed up with academic study to underpin and contextualise their knowledge. Academic studies involve research into the history of performing arts, working logs and evaluations of work undertaken, along with an approach to budgeting and marketing performances. Taught skills classes lead to performances in front of student audiences and invited guests in Year 1, and as major projects for the general public in Year 2. The course offers valuable experience for students interested in working in all aspects of the Performing Arts such as performers, technicians and administrators.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A* – C or a BTEC Level 2 (Merit or above) plus a College interview as well as a C or equivalent in Level 2 English & Maths. Potential students are also required to attend a workshop.

Adults with no formal qualifications but with relevant experience and a commitment to performance are welcome on the course and should apply for an interview.

Financial information

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds.

This course will cost a maximum of £480 for learners aged 19 years old or above. This fee may be reduced or void depending on the individual’s circumstances.

Future opportunities

The Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels and offer students the required qualifications to study Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre and related subjects at University or specialised Dance or Drama Schools.
