If you're working at Entry Level 1 and 2, this course is for you. It's designed for learners who need a supportive environment in which to learn, and the learners on this course will either have a 'Statement of Educational Needs' or have missed a significant amount of schooling. For those who choose to attend this course at Lower Mounts, you'll study one module at Booth Lane.

Course content

Towards Independence is designed to develop your social skills and prepare you for independent living. You'll learn social skills, literacy and numeracy, as well as studying an 'Independent Living' module, which will include shopping, cooking, cleaning and budgeting, and an 'Accessing the Community' module, which will involve visiting local amenities and facilities and eating out in local cafes. You'll be taught in small groups and will be set targets to achieve. Both your targets and your progress will be monitored regularly in tutorial sessions. We'll assess your individual needs at your initial interview, and if necessary, will arrange additional support to help you achieve your learning goals.

You'll work towards a recognised Independent Living Skills qualification.

Entry requirements

You must possess a willingness to take part in new learning opportunities and show you are committed to furthering your education.
