Level 3 Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma in Sport at King Charles I School

Course description

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Sport is the equivalent to an A Level qualification. The course is equally demanding as an A Level subject due to the volume and standard of coursework required. The significant difference is that it is 100% coursework, allowing students to complete and ‘bank’ the modules completed. Student’s marks will gradually build up to achieve a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction Star by the end of the course.

It is a varied and practically based course and assignments have been designed to allow for a number of assessment methods including video diaries, pod casts, presentations, reports and some essay writing. The course includes practical elements and research is often required through practical performance.

The BTEC in Sport will give learners a solid foundation in the sports & activities sector, enabling students to develop essential skills required for gaining employment, securing career progression or progressing to further qualifications and training.

Entry requirements

Due to the demands of the subject students should have gained at least five GCSEs at grade C or higher.

GCSE Physical Education is desirable at grade C or above and/or Level 2 BTEC Sport with a Merit grade.

A grade C in English is desirable, due to the coursework standard required.
