Plumbing & Mechanical Engineering Services Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at PETROC

Course description

The plumbing industry is a highly competitive field and plumbers must be familiar with everything from domestic heating and plumbing systems to sanitation and rainwater. These are areas that the Apprentice will develop, broadening the knowledge base to encompass current technology.

Course content

In recent years, the industry has also been involved with developing environmental technologies such as solar water heating and rain water harvesting. During your study you will cover a range of knowledge and skills across areas including domestic hot and cold water systems, central heating systems, sanitation systems, environmental technologies.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade C equivalent or above ideally to include Maths, English and ICT., You must be employed in order to start this programme. Enthusiasm for your subject and a willingness to work hard are essential.


You will receive support and 12 weekly reviews with your Placement Officer and regular assessment in the workplace. There is a theory test at the end of each unit as well as an overall end of year online test.

Future opportunities

Learners can progress to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship or another Level 3 course within the Architecture and Construction field.
