Hospitality Level 3 Apprenticeship at Swindon College
Course description
In addition preparation and cooking units could include; meat, fish, sauces and soups, vegetables, dough products, pasta, rice, egg dishes, cakes, sponges and desserts.
Entry requirements
The Apprenticeship is open to those aged 16+ in suitable employment who hold GCSEs, (or equivalent) at grade D in English
and Maths. (Please note that funding restrictions may apply to apprentices aged 19+). Apprenticeships are currently not available to those who have a degree, HNC, HND or equivalent level 4 qualifications.
Although the course is essentially practical and vocational in nature, the basic knowledge associated with food preparation,
science and hygiene are covered in a degree of detail.
The course requires a strong commitment in terms of motivation and flexibility since trainee chefs have to work under pressure
preparing quality food to an ever-discerning public.
Assessment
This is generally done in a realistic working environment at College or can be carried out in the workplace by way of observation
and feedback from experienced chefs who are also qualified assessors. The qualification is gained by building up evidence in a portfolio achieved at your own pace whilst at College and in the workplace.
Key Skills are assessed by assignments and multiple-choice tests.
