ICT A-Level at Daventry UTC

Course description

There are very few people in the UK today that do not have contact with ICT and computers as users or practitioners. Most of us are ‘users’ in that we ‘use’ computers to achieve an end, to provide us with information, to instruct us or maybe to entertain us. Less common are those people for whom the computer is an end in itself: technicians and programmers, or maybe network, website and database designers. These people are known as ‘practitioners’. The Edexcel GCE in Applied ICT single award is made up entirely of ‘user’ type units and it is the practical use of ICT applications which is fundamental to this qualification.

You will be assessed in units in units 3 and 7 by assignments set by Edexcel that ask you to carry out practical, ‘hands –on’ tasks. You will collect evidence of your work for the other units in an eportfolio. This is designed to be viewed on screen and will showcase your achievement. It will be assessed by your teacher and moderated by Edexcel.

Future opportunities

The GCE in Applied ICT qualifies for UCAS points so if you complete it successfully you could move on to study for a degree or BTEC Higher Diploma in RELATED SUBJECTS SUCH AS ict, Computer SCIENCE, Information Systems, Multimedia, Software Engineering , Computer Networking, E-Business and Information Management. You could also go on to work based training such as IT User/ Practitioner NVQs or vendor –specific qualifications.
