Course description

English Literature is an additional GCSE available to selected students at Aire Valley School

Course content

English Literature is an extension of the GSCE English Grade that you will get.  This course covers novels, drama and poetry.  There are two external exams in addition to controlled assessment which is carried out in class.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course.  Here at Aire Valley School, English at GCSE level is compulsory.

Assessment

The exam are two hours each and will test your understanding of the texts you have studied.  You will be asked to analyse extracts of writing and answer an essay question on each text as well as analysing unseen poetry.

Future opportunities

The study of English Literature will assist you to develop critical thinking, analytical and basic English skills. Once mastered it will serve you well in other subjects you may wish to study such as History, Sociology as well as most other subjects.
