Business - Warehousing and Storage Apprenticeship Level 2 (BUS1) at Barnsley College

Course description

As an Apprentice you will be employed within a warehouse environment and attend College one day a week.

You will study the following qualifications:

• Level 2 NVQ in Warehousing and Storage

• Level 2 Principles in Warehousing Operations


Course content

You will study units from the list below relevant to your job role. You will also study:

  • Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Booklet
  • Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Entry requirements

2 GCSEs at Grade A* to D plus GCSE English Language at Grade A* to C and GCSE Maths at Grade A* to D

plus Successful completion of a skills test

plus Employed or written offer of employment in warehousing and storage


Through work based assessments in your work placement and various evidence methods throughout the programme, building up a portfolio.

Financial information

The College has Access Funds that may assist students with expenses such as travel, books, equipment, and child care. Applications for assistance should be made to Student Services and will be dealt with on an individual basis.


We realise that getting to and from College may not be very easy for everyone which is why we have funded the following return bus routes for our students:

Shelley > Barnsley College

Stocksbridge > Barnsley College

(Old Mill Lane campus)

Old Mill Lane campus > Barugh Green (Construction)

Old Mill Lane campus > Wigfield Farm

(Animal Care/Horticulture)

The bus routes are

FREE for our students and operate on a first come, first served basis.

Each route will operate in the morning in order to get students into College before lessons start and a return service will be provided after lessons finish.

Also available:

• FREE travel for those with a

household income of less than £30,000. (16-18 year olds).

• FREE local authority concessionary bus pass for students under the age of 18 (on 1 Sept 2014).

• DISCOUNTED bus travel on all Stagecoach services (20% off Megarider tickets)

Future opportunities

Employment - This course can lead to a position such as Warehouse Supervisor or other related job roles.

Education - You could go on to take an Apprenticeship in Team Leading, other higher level qualifications or more specialist qualifications in the field of warehousing and/or logistics.
