A2 Geography at John Colet School

Course description

Paper 3- Contemporary Geographical Issues
This is on Contemporary Geographical issues requiring structured short and extended answers, plus an essay. These topics will be chosen from a range of physical and human options- examples being Plate tectonics and associated hazards and World cities. Ecosystems: change and challenge, and Development and Globalisation.

Paper 4 - Geography Fieldwork or Issue Evaluation
One fieldwork investigation [a] or geographical issue evaluation [b] worth 20% of the A level.

The investigation will be an individual examination of a geographical argument, assertion or hypothesis, issue or problem. There are no restrictions on the type of topic chosen so long as it is geographical, based on a small area of study and includes primary and secondary data collection.

The geographical issue evaluation will allow you to extend the content of the specification through a specialised evaluation of an issue, which will be pre-released in an information booklet by AQA. The focus here will be on data interpretation and evaluation using a variety of techniques. You will be able to carry out further research into the issue.
