Floristry Intermediate Diploma at Derby College

Course description

Consider this course if you are looking for a career in floristry, have always fancied working with flowers, or possibly want a complete change of career.

This is a practical-based modular programme that will show you the basic tricks of the trade, enabling you to move forward into a rewarding new profession.  

Course content

In addition to the mandatory Floristry units, you will study Functional Skills and attend a work experience placement.

Entry requirements

You need a relevant Level 1 qualification with a Merit grade or four passes at GCSE grades D-G, with Maths and English preferable.  Mature learners must demonstrate that they are prepared to take on the commitment of studying and have good literacy and numeracy skills.

An interest in art and the environment would also be beneficial.

You must have a minimum of a Merit grade to progress to an Advanced Diploma.


You will be assessed continually on practical and written work.  You will also need to complete a portfolio of evidence.

Future opportunities

Derby College offers advanced courses in Floristry or Horticulture.  However, you must have a minimum of a Merit grade to progress to an Advanced Diploma.

You could also apply for a job in the floristry industry or at a garden centre.
