Design and Technology - Textiles AS/ A2 at Dixons City Academy
The course follows a structured practical course of study that stimulates creativity and innovation and also links to the commercial and industrial world.
This option gives students the opportunity to work in textiles in both fashion and design and home interiors, using a range of modern construction and decorative techniques to design specific products of their choice.
Students will require at least 5 GCSEs grade C or above, including Product Design at grade B or above.
Year 12 AS Outline
Unit 1 (25%) – A written paper based primarily on Materials and Components – 2 hours
Unit 2 (25%) – A portfolio consisting of design work including practical outcomes – 50 hours (approx).
Year 13 A2 Outline
Unit 3 (25%) – A written paper based primarily on Design and Manufacture – 2 hours
Unit 4 (25%) – A single major project of the student’s own choice. The project must include substantial designing and making activity. It will include a portfolio of design work and a practical outcome. To run throughout the academic year – 60 hours (approx).
There is a large range of associated courses running at universities and colleges around the country, covering a wide range of specialisms such as Product Design, Fashion, Interiors, Engineering and Architecture etc. This can lead to a career working within the creative industries or an associated sector.
