Textiles AS level at Shoeburyness High School
This course involves the practical exploration of constructed, printed and/ or dyed fabrics, materials and other decorative textile techniques. In conjunction with the study of designers and craftwork from around the world, from both past and recent times. Samples are presented in sketchbooks. In order to complete critical analysis of artists work, the course also involves trips to museums and linked exhibitions in London. Students are expected to complete a minimum of 3 hours homework a week.
What coursework do I have to do?
AS: 1 practical coursework unit based on natural forms 60%. Through the exploration and sampling of a wide range of textiles techniques, presented in sketchbook form and resulting in a practical outcome e.g. Artwear, 3-D sculpture or wall hanging.
5 GCSEs at grade C or above – one being in Textiles.
What’s in the exam?
AS: 1 practical controlled test (10 hours) 40%. Set by exam board. Exam questions are released by AQA on 1st February in the examination year and you have 3 ½ months to explore and experiment with a variety of textile techniques before the 5 hour exam, where you will complete the final sample.
