Media Production Level 3 Extended Diploma at Carlisle College

Course description

This is a fast paced, energetic moving image course that aims to provide you with a professional-level show reel and CV that puts you in a strong position for gaining work in the industry or moving into higher level study. The course offers an exciting combination of theory and practical learning. There is a strong emphasis on working in a professional manner and creating a wide range of live projects for external clients, as well as developing submissions to film festivals and competitions.

Course content

This is an exciting year long course that will allow you the opportunity to explore and create a range of media products, including: 

  • Short Films 
  • Documentaries
  • Promotional Videos
  • News Programmes 
  • Music Videos
  • Live Multi-Camera Events
  • Marketing and Advertising Campaigns

Whilst the focus is on preparing you for a career in the creative industries, in a media saturated society you will also need to develop transferable skills that are now also valued outside of the media industry. This course focuses on developing your confidence and ability in a range of areas that are highly valued by all employers.

Entry requirements

Level 2 Diploma in a related subject at merit level. A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade A* - C to include English Language. You will be expected to attend an interview. We expect that applicants will have a passion for filmmaking, TV production and other broader areas of the media such as the internet, radio and magazines. Previous production experience is not essential, but is highly recommended.

Assessment

Assessment will be in the form of essays, blogs, presentations, pitches and practical work, with the aim to develop strong transferable skills.

Future opportunities

A BTEC qualification in creative media is a recognised progression qualification which is a vocational alternative/additional to traditional A level qualifications. During year 2 students who are interested in progressing onto higher level study are given support and guidance with the UCAS application process.

Pathways from this course include:

  • Direct entry into relevant employment.
  • Undergraduate level study in a related subject.
