Extended Project Qualification at Belfairs Academy

Course description

All students entering Post 16 with 5 GCSE’s at grade B or above including English and Maths will have the opportunity to undertake the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) at Level 3. This is equivalent to half an A Level and is highly regarded by universities and employers. Much content of the course is student led, develops independent learning skills and attributes and the ability to write critically.

What appeals to many, is that the project can be based on, subject to Academy and examination board approval, an issue that really interests a student. Current project topics include American foreign policy post 9/11, the role of dogs in cancer detection and 3D printing.

Students are taught research methodology, academic writing skills, how to prepare for tutorials and a whole host of attributes needed to succeed in higher education and employment. Visiting speakers will include representatives from universities and employers such as the Bank of England. Students will also make use of the Open University’s ‘Futurelearn’ platform.

EPQ is a fantastic opportunity to study something of great personal interest, be accredited for it and significantly enhance your future!
