Course description

This full time course is designed for 16-18 year olds who want to access further study in the area of criminal justice. If you are a mature learner and are interested in this subject, you may want to consider our Access to Social Science with Criminology course.The Diploma in Criminology is a two year course and will give you an in-depth knowledge and understanding of concepts linked to the criminal justice system. It is designed to be studied alongside other level 3 qualifications such as A-levels or BTEC Level 3. It is perfect if you want to pursue a career in the field of social and probation work, sociology, law and psychology. As part of your study programme all students will attend weekly tutorials which are designed to assist with study skills, confidence building and applying for university. You will also be required to arrange and complete work experience in both year one and two.You will be assessed through assignments, essays, reports, assessed practical work and two external exams.Work ExperienceAll students are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours work experience in both year one and year two. This will help develop the personal qualities and skills required by universities and employers.

Entry requirements

You'll need six GCSEs grade C (new grade 5) or above including maths and English Language or a BTEC in a relevant subject with distinction grades and GCSE maths and English grade 5 or above. You will also be required to have an interview prior to enrolment.Please note you will need to pass year one successfully with merit and distinction grades in order to progress to the second year.This course is particularly useful for students who already have GCSEs in History Sociology Law Psychology Citizenship or other Humanities subjects but these are not mandatory.
