Construction at Burton Borough School

Course description

The Introductory Certificate in Construction programme enables students to sample work within the industry through practical activities using construction materials, acquiring basic occupational skills and associated knowledge and understanding. Modules include brickwork, carpentry and joinery and painting and decorating. This involves using materials specific to the vocational area, for example, painting and decorating requires the use of lining paper, oil based and water based paints and heavy retail wall coverings. In brickwork, students will be producing solid structures as well as being responsible for mixing cement and estimating the quantities of materials they will require. In carpentry and joinery students will be learning some basic woodwork techniques. They will use materials and tools in order to meet the task brief. Students will also complete assignments to maintain and build their underpinning knowledge.

Teacher assessed KS3 level 3 or 4, good Attendance, good tutor or school report, Interview.
