Course description

The Level 2 Diploma in Engineering - Welding is an intermediate course that will equip students with the basic practical skills and knowledge needed to start work in industries involving welding. The one year, full time course comprises of theory work and practical sessions in our Worldskills standard welding workshop in the College’s state-of-the-art Construction Skill Centre. The units covered will include: Working in engineering, Principles of engineering, Principles of fab and weld, Manual metal arc, Mig welding, Tig welding. This is an ideal course for those with an eye for precision, seeking to achieve high standards who enjoy working with their hands and are looking to start a career in Welding. Maths and English will be at the core of your studies, both of which are essential if you wish to pursue a career in the industry.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade D or above including English, maths, a practical skills assessment and/or demonstrate an interest in the subject. All places are subject to interview. Applicants subject to ind/prob period.

Financial information

Free to all 16-18 and 19-23 year olds where needed as a stepping stone to progress to a Full Level 2. Also free to learners who are in receipt of JSA (Job Seekers Allowance) ESA ((Employment Support Allowance, (work related activity)) or Universal Credit (mandated). Where fees are payable you can set up a payment plan that best suits your needs

Future opportunities
