Chemistry at Cottingham High School

Course description

A level Chemistry involves developing your practical skills that include making observations, collecting data, analysing experimental results and formulating conclusions. You will also gain an appreciation of the applications and implications of science, the benefits and risks that science brings and the ways in which society uses science to make decisions.

AS Level
Unit 1 - The elements of life and Developing Fuels
Unit 2 - From Minerals to Elements and The Atmosphere and The Polymer Revolution
Unit 3 - Assessment of practical skills.

A2 Level
Unit 4 - What's in medicine? Designer Polymers, Engineering Proteins, The Steel Story
Unit 5 - Aspects of agriculture, Colour by design, The Oceans, Medicines by design, Aspects of Chemical industry
Unit 6 - Individual investigation - topic of the student's choice based on practical work over a 4 week period.

Entry requirements

GCSE’s at grade A*-C are generally required.
