Creative Media Production BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Brooklands College

Course description

If your aim is to follow a career in the TV, Film or Magazine Publishing industry, then the Diploma will equip you with the necessary practical skills and knowledge.

The course will also broaden and stimulate your interest by allowing you to consider the cultural and social context in which TV, film, print and news productions, as well as the commercial and economic environment in which they operate. You will be taught by highly-qualified lecturers with experience of working in the media industries. The course is a mixture of academic classroom-based work and practical projects.

Units may include:

- Pre-Production Techniques
- Video Editing
- Page Layout and Design for Print Publication
- Music Video Production
- Shooting Single Camera
- Animation Production
- Factual Programme Production
- Promotion and Advertising Production

Facilities include digital TV and radio studios with digital recording equipment, HD video cameras, Apple Mac editing suites and DTP including media industry standard software, including InDesign, Final Cut Pro, Adobe CS3. The course includes visits to media industries and events as well as sessions with practising professionals, so you will be well prepared for work in the media.

You will be taught by highly-qualified lecturers with experience of working in the media industries.  The course is an exciting mixture of academic classroom-based work and practical projects.

Who is the course suitable for?
This course is suitable for those with an interest in following a career in Media sectors such as Publishing, TV, Film, Radio or Music Industries.

Entry requirements

You need 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (preferably including English Language and Maths) or a First Diploma in Media. 

Assessment

You will be continuously assessed throughout the course on practical and written assignments.  There will be some externally assessed units.

Financial information

Students buy their own materials such as USB memory sticks and blank DVDs.  The student pays for educational visits to London, TV studios etc.  Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.

Future opportunities

The Extended Diploma is equal to 3 A Levels and will enable you to apply for a degree at a university or other course in a related area. Some students go on to work independently in the industry.
