Electrical Installation Diploma Level 1 at New College Stamford

Course description

Gain an introduction to the electrical industry and gain the practical skills necessaryto install electrical equipment to an industry standard. You will learn the basics about different types of installation including:Electrical installationWiring and terminationsFabrication techniques for electrical installationsElectrical science and technologyYou will have the opportunity to visit the Construction Trade Fair at the NEC in Birmingham, as well as other trade based events. You can also take part in regional and national competitions such as World Skills Build which has seen the very best in Construction compete for over 45 years.This course is approximately 30% theory and 70% practical.

Course content

You will complete work books and assignments using online resources. You will also take part in a Construction work placement which will give you on-site experience alongside opportunities to complete relevant community projects with New College Stamford.

Entry requirements

2GCSEs at grades C or above including English and maths at grades D/3 or above or Construction Operations Diploma Level 1.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments and written, short answer question papers.Practical assessment will be undertaken internally within the practical workshops.You will be expected to undertake 1 week work experience on a construction site, in a workshop or in a construction related field. While we will help you to find the work experience, in some instances it may not be possible to gain this; if this is the case then you will undertake a week of employment related activities.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you could progress to study the Electrical Installation Diploma Level 2 or an Electrotechnical Engineering Apprenticeship.

You will require a uniform consisting of steel toe capped boots and overalls which can be purchased from our website. During your interview you will also sit an online suitability assessment. The result of this, plus your previous academic achievements and maturity will determine the level of course you are offered.
