Art and Design A Level at Weston College
The British creative industry is one of the most successful in the world. This A Level is an exciting base for working in the world of creative arts. Building on your GCSE Art and Design, you’ll develop a variety of media techniques including drawing, painting, ICT, 3D and print.
You’ll visit local and national galleries to investigate different disciplines and styles to complement your personal projects. You will be expected to do a large amount of work in your own time.
You will focus on developing a portfolio based on a chosen theme or subject matter.
Year 2 units allow you to develop your own starting point and work on it solidly until the exam begins in the spring. There is a written element to the year 2 programme which allows you to comprehensively evaluate your development through the year.
At least five GCSEs at grade A*-C, to include GCSE grade C in Art and Design, plus a portfolio at interview.
You will be expected to start researching your portfolio units in the summer ready for sessions in September.
You will do a controlled assessment in May (40% of your final marks), as well as submitting portfolio work.
