The Diploma in Financial Studies has been designed to provide students the core
disciplines of financial capability.
 
What could it lead to?
The financially related content of the course serves as a strong grounding for undergraduate study within finance and Business related disciplines, with many
students going onto study accounting, business, finance and banking

Course content

This course has been designed to cover the core disciplines of financial capability. Students are encouraged to become responsible borrowers, sensible savers, and have an appreciation of the need for financial planning throughout their life.

As an Applied General qualification, the Diploma in Financial Studies provides an in‐depth exploration of the key concepts of financial capability and how they are applied to achieve longer‐term financial sustainability.

Assessment

You will sit two exams in Year 12 (Certificate in Financial Stu
dies) and two exams in Year 13 (Diploma in Financial Studies) The exams contain a combination of multiple choice questions, short answer questions and essay style
responses.
 
You will gain an appreciation of why money is important through focussing on what money is; attitudes to it; and how it can affect life choices. In addition you will gain the ability to plan and manage your financial needs in the medium and long term, with particular reference to the importance of the need to budget for future aspirations and life events. In year 13 you will focus on financial sustainability within the wider financial services system, and the long‐term impact of debt.
