A Level Dance at Wootton Upper School and Arts College
- The dancer as performer: knowledge and understanding of the demands made in practice and performance on the dancer.
- The process and craft of choreography.
- Appreciation of dance, developing critical thinking in relation to dance as an art form.
- Experience of a diverse range of dance works and choreographers.
A compulsory element of the course is to participate in dance workshops with professional dance artists and attend at least one visit to a professional dance performance per term. A strong commitment to extra-curricular rehearsal is vital.
Entry requirements are a grade B or above in GCSE Dance. Students who have not studied GCSE Dance may request an audition if they have a strong background in Dance.
The course provides excellent preparation for higher education opportunities in dance, theatre or the arts. Career opportunities include performing, choreographing, teaching, arts management/administration and dance therapy. A Level Dance is accepted by most universities, particularly for degrees in the arts. It is also relevant for students wishing to acquire experience in creativity and develop analytical skills for future employment in other areas.
Any member of the Dance Department will be happy to discuss your suitability for the course. Students currently studying Dance at AS or A2 Level will be able to offer an insight into the course.
