Hairdressing Studies (QCF) Diploma Level 3 at The Manchester College

Course description

Taking your cutting and styling skills to the next stage, this Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies will develop your technical knowledge further and help you advance your abilities in the industry. It’s based on national standards, and recognised by a number of leading professional associations, so you can be sure you’re learning all the relevant techniques for a successful career! You’ll take a more in-depth look at the industry with this diploma, and as well as developing your cutting and styling techniques to deliver a variety of looks, you’ll also focus on more managerial skills in the salon environment, including how to promote services, how to monitor health and safety practices, and how to provide effective consultation support for your colleagues. As part of a number of optional units you can choose to take, you’ll be able to develop your skills working with hair extensions, perms, and styles specifically for brides-to-be! You’ll also be able to look at how to design a salon and research topics that will help you succeed in building your own business!

Entry requirements

You’ll need to have a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing, along with relevant GCSE grades in English, or an equivalent Functional Skills qualification at Level 2. You should also already have a work placement at two days per week, and be able to show us your artistic flair, good listening and communication skills, and passion for the industry. You’ll be continually assessed throughout the whole diploma, with a variety of practical assignments and tasks, written work, written tests, and personal observations. This will include your work placement, and a weekly tutorial support session to develop your employability skills.

Future opportunities

After you’ve achieved this Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies, you’ll be well placed to continue onto a number of higher-level courses and develop your skills even further. These include certificates and diplomas in Salon Management, Specialist Hair and Scalp Services and Advanced Hair Styling. You could also advance onto an apprenticeship in the industry, all the while enhancing your abilities and working towards an exciting and rewarding career as a hairdresser, whether that’s working as a junior in an established salon or managing your own business!       Northenden is a suburb of south Manchester. There are shops, a supermarket, restaurants and takeaways 15 minutes’ walk from the campus in central Northenden. There are also a small supermarket and shops closer to the campus. Northenden is surrounded by green space. The campus is minutes away from Gib Lane Wood and Wythenshawe Park which includes a community farm. It is also close to the Mersey Valley nature reserve; a riverside walk through miles of countryside and parkland.
