Children and Young People's Workforce (Early Years) Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at Exeter College

Course description

This course is for those wishing to learn the skills necessary to work within the childcare industry. An intermediate apprenticeship is a one year programme, attending college for one day per week in term time. The remaining time you will be working for your employer, you will also be visited and assessed in your workplace.

Course content

There are many units within the qualification that are chosen in relation to the kind of tasks you will be carrying out within your place of employment.

Examples of these units include:

  • Creative activities
  • Child development
  • Working as part of a team
  • Duty of care

Entry requirements

You need GCSE English and maths at grade D or above. You need patience, understanding, a strong desire to work with people and good communication skills. You will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for your employer.

Financial information

Other costs would include the purchase of recommended textbooks. You will need an enhanced DBS check done through your work placement or the college.

Future opportunities

This course will launch you directly into the workplace and provides an excellent preparation to build your career and progress to further training and education. The Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) is the next step in doing so.
