Hairdressing with ESOL Diploma Level 1 at The Manchester College

Course description

Designed for anyone who wants to get a full, comprehensive introduction to a wide range of practical hairdressing skills, this Level 1 Diploma will give you a good, solid understanding of relevant techniques and lay the foundations for further study and an exciting future career. You’ll start with a wider look at the whole hair and beauty sector, focusing on how to present a professional image in the salon and how to follow health and safety regulations correctly. Throughout the course, you’ll develop your skills in shampooing, blow-drying and styling both women’s and men’s hair, as well as learning how to section hair effectively and apply temporary colour. With optional units to choose from as well, you can also learn how to plait and twist hair effectively. You’ll be learning in a real working environment and developing all the skills and abilities you’ll need for employment.

Assessment

You don’t need to have any formal qualifications to enrol on this diploma, but we do ask that you are working at Entry Level 3 or above in both Literacy and Numeracy. Of course, you should also be passionate about working in this industry. We’ll invite you for a short initial assessment too, to check this course is suitable for you. Financial information

Both practical assignments and written work will form the basis for your assessment on this diploma, with regular tasks to complete throughout the year. You’ll be building a portfolio of all your skills and abilities, from assessments, observations, written tests, work placements, and weekly tutorial sessions.

Further information

All the skills you learn on this course will be preparing you for future employment as a hairdresser or other related career in the hair and beauty industry. After completing this diploma, you’ll have the opportunity to advance onto other courses with us at The Manchester College and expand your hairdressing knowledge and abilities further, with diplomas in Barbering, Hairdressing Studies, African Caribbean Hairdressing and Creative Hair Design.

    • North Manchester Sixth Form is a friendly, vibrant sixth form centre offering courses for school leavers. There are a wide range of courses to choose from, including acting, medical sciences, childcare, business, film production and forensics. The comfortable, environmentally friendly site is made up of a bright modern building and the restored Harpurhey Baths. There is plenty of space to socialise and a large garden. Many of the facilities at North Manchester Sixth Form are open to the community.

      Harpurhey Baths is a Grade II listed building and part of North Manchester Sixth Form. The college has transformed the building into an award-winning exhibition space for students and the community.

      North Manchester Sixth Form is in Harpurhey, a suburb three miles north of central Manchester. There are a large market, supermarket, shops, fast food chains and a post office nearby. North Manchester Sixth Form is close to Queens Park and Boggart Hole Clough, large community parks hosting events throughout the year. Queens Park has a children’s playground. North City Family and Fitness Centre is five minutes’ walk away and has a health suite and swimming pool.
