History Level 3 at Hilbre High Humanities College

Course description

The GCE Advanced Level History qualification is designed to build on the skills developed at GCSE level. The course is split into four units of work studied over two years leading to a full GCE A Level. The course is linear. The AS qualification does not count towards the final grade of the A Level but is a separate qualification in its own right. The course is delivered through a variety of means, including directed teaching, group presentations, paired work, independent student research, the use of audio-visual material and note-taking. Students are encouraged to read around the subject and enter into debate about what is being studied.

Entry requirements

A GCSE pass of a grade B in History. Consideration will also be given to a strong performance in a different Humanities subject and English. A genuine interest in History is essential, with the expectation to read around the subject and take an interest in current affairs. The ability to make notes, make use of sources and construct arguments is also required.
