Geography (A2) at Cheslyn Hay Sport & Community High School

Course description

AS and A2 units and content: Geography 1: A two hour written exam testing the core topics of: Human: Population and Food Issues Physical: Rivers and Coasts Geography 2: A skills and fieldwork based synoptic exam (one hour paper) At A2 we study contemporary geographical issues based around a two hour exam. Themes include plate technics, ecosystems, world cities and globalisation. There is also a geographical fieldwork investigation.

Entry requirements

A grade B or above in GCSE Geography is preferable, but we expect students to give their very best!

Future opportunities

Everything – Geography remains a great bridge between the sciences and arts. As such it is a good subject to link with any combination of other subjects. Geographers have many transferable skills and can be employed in a wide variety of fields including Logistics; Tourism; Business; Education; IT; Local Councils; Forestry; Media; Engineering; Cartography and Retail.You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Travel and Tourism or Health and Social Care, to prepare for higher education in areas of geography, humanities, science or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go on to a job related to geography and work as a Town Planner, Environmental Officer or Weather Forecaster. The course also helps you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
