Art and Design A Level at Ormiston Rivers Academy

Course description

A Level Art and Design is assessed using four criteria:
- AO1 Develop,
- AO2 Explore,
- AO3 Record,
- AO4 Present.

A final piece is produced for each unit. Emphasis is focused on critical reflection and understanding alongside working in a range of media and quality of artwork.

Course content

Year 12
Art and Design is graded on one set task including an exam. Students are given a title set by the exam board and are asked to work through the AO strands, developing, experimenting and recording to plan for a final outcome.

Year 13
Art and Design is split into two units:
- A personal investigation making up 60% of the A Level, including an extended written essay.
- A set task and examination making 40% of the overall grade.

Entry requirements

Grade C in GCSE Art & Design

Future opportunities

Degrees in subjects such as: Graphic Design, Three Dimensional Product Design, Digital/Multi Media, Photography, Fine Art, Interior Architecture.

Art can be great preparation for any career that requires fine motor skills, presentation skills, an eye for aesthetics and creative thinking.
