Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Advanced Apprenticeship – Level 3 at Dudley College

Course description

This programme offers the benefit of experience at work, supported by learning at college and is especially suited to those who wish to undertake an Apprenticeship. It will enable you to develop skills in a real working environment and offer you the opportunity to gain an Apprenticeship. Over 25’s are also welcome to apply.

Course content

VCQ’s are based on National Occupational Standards (NOS). Your VCQ is based upon NOS from the Institute of the Motor Industry Sector Skills Council at level 3. This level reflects the range of knowledge, skills & experience, and therefore competence that employees should have as they progress in the industry.

Level 3 reflects the ability to identify and use relevant understanding, methods and skills to complete tasks and address problems that while well-defined have a measure of complexity. It includes taking responsibility for initiating and completing tasks and procedures, as well as exercising autonomy and judgement within limited parameters. It also reflects awareness of different perspectives or approaches within an area of study or work. The technical diagnostic and repair areas covered are: Engine, Electrics & electronics, Steering, suspension & brakes and transmission & driveline.

Entry requirements

1. You will need to have completed a Level 2 Apprenticeship.

2. You must be in employment at the start of the course. You will however be given guidance to secure your own employment.

3. You will have a minimum of 4 GCSE’s at grade C including English and Maths at grade C.

4. You will need to take an initial assessment in Literacy and Numeracy and have a successful interview.

Acceptance onto the programme does depend on a placement offer from an employer. The initial assessment will be done at your interview.

Please note that you are expected to purchase your own Personal Protective Equipment.

Assessment

Continual assessment of practical units in the workplace. Awarding body online underpinning knowledge testing and functional skills examinations. Compilation of a vocational portfolio.

Future opportunities

Professional qualifications in supervisory management
MOT tester or Higher Education.
