Electrical Installation Level 1 at Wiltshire College

Course description

This course is a great starting point for anybody interested in working in the electrical industry.
You will gain workshop experience in a number of areas such as lighting and power circuits and fabricating metal support systems.
The course covers the construction industry, electrical science, health and safety (including safe working practices), wiring, types of circuits and environmental technologies.

Course content

Learners are required to successfully complete all seven units listed below, in order to pass this course:

  • Structure of the construction industry
  • Fundamental safe working practices
  • Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
  • Site preparation for working in the construction industry
  • Electrical installation wiring and terminations
  • Fabrication techniques for electrical installations
  • Electrical science and technology

Entry requirements

2 GCSEs at grade D or above, in Maths and English. You will also be required to pass a trade specific aptitude test, provide a good reference and have a satisfactory interview.


Your units are assessed by a mixture of written exams and practical assessments. 
It would be an advantage to go through your course notes on a weekly basis to enable you to understand the knowledge required to be successful.
The final qualification for this course is a City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Electrical Installation
C&G 7202-01

Future opportunities

Successful completion of the course can lead to progressing onto the Level 2 Diploma.
This course could help you get an apprenticeship within the electrical industry or assist students gaining employment in the alarm and security industry such as burglar alarms, fire alarms, CCTV etc.
