French at Hele's School
The AS course enables students to develop communicative skills learnt at GCSE with greater confidence and accuracy. Students are expected to put forward their opinions on different topics studied throughout the course. An interest in the current affairs of French speaking countries is important.
AS language courses immerse students in the culture of the foreign language and allow for more personalised contact with the foreign language assistant. Students explore cultural and social issues in greater depth, such as, communication and media, healthy living, family and relationships in year 12 and environment, contemporary social issues, multicultural society in year 13. In addition there is more focus on the grammatical system and structure of the language and increased exposure to grammar will support students’ development.
