Law A Level at Handsworth Wood Girls' Academy
You will learn about Criminal Law including the law of homicide and the law of non-fatal offences. You will also study Tort Law including negligence, nuisance and the Occupiers’ Liability Acts. There will also an examination of some of the key concepts of law including the relationships between law and justice and law and morality and you will also learn how the law attempts to balance the competing interests of different parties.
A2 Unit 3: Criminal Law (Offences against the Person) or Contract
A2 Unit 4: Criminal Law (Offences against Property) or Tort, and Concepts of Law
The course is for students who have achieved at least a grade ‘D’ in the AS-Level and who wish to study Law at university or for any student wishing to study in Higher Education.
- Formative assessment during the course will occur informally in class, through your class work and homework and through topic tests.
- Summative assessment will be by way of 2 exams, each worth 25 % of the A Level. Unit 3 (1 ½ hours) will be taken in January and Unit 4 (2 hours) will be taken in June.
- The remaining 50 % of the marks comes from the AS Level course.
You can progress to University or employment. A Level Law provides exemption from certain exams offered by the Institute of Legal Executives.
