A Level Health & Social Care at Devizes School

Course description

Why study Health and Social Care?

You will actively experience the Health and Social Care environments. This will be achieved through a variety of approaches including work placements, visiting practitioners, case studies and research. You will extract information from many sources, learning new skills and developing existing ones. Self-improvement, self-reliance and individual progress are central to this course.

At AS level the compulsory units will be Promoting Quality Care, Communication in Care Settings and Promoting Good Health. In addition, three more units (for double award) will be Health and Safety in Care Settings, Working in Early-Years Care and Education and Health as a Lifestyle Choice.

At A2 level there will be one compulsory unit, Care Practice and Provision. Two more (for single award) and five more units (for double award) will be chosen from Understanding Human Behaviour, Anatomy and Physiology in Practice, Child Development, Mental Health Issues, Social Trends and Research Methods in Health and Social Care.

Entry requirements

Grade C in GCSE English, as well asa genuine interest in people.
