IT Cambridge TEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Barrow-in-Furness Sixth Form College

Course description

This is an ideal qualification if you are thinking about a career or employment in IT. You will gain a Level 2 qualification which will support further study in IT. You will have valuable opportunities to develop skills, gain knowledge and understanding in IT, provide progression to further study and improve your employability. You will study 4 units focusing on how ICT is used to communicate information, jobs that are available in the IT industry, how to develop a web site and how to create animations for web pages.

You will use software packages, word processors, presentation software, desktop publishing and email to present information that is aimed at a specific audience and fit for the purpose that it is intended for, ensuring it is good quality by reviewing and proof reading you work. You will study the tasks undertaken by people who work in the IT industry as network engineers, database administrators, systems analysts, computer programmes or IT support staff in a modern business.

You will learn how to create web sites for a business that is fit for purpose and meets the business needs and you will learn how to create animations for use on the web site.

There are no examinations in this subject, it is assessed purely on coursework and to succeed on this course you will to be a committed student who is prepared to work hard for all of the academic year.

Entry requirements

This qualification is available for anyone who meets the general college entry requirements for Level 2 study or as an option for a mixed Level 2 and Level 3 programme of study.

    • 1. Leave the M6 at Junction 36 and follow signs for the A590 and Barrow (33 miles).
      2. After 25 miles pass through Ulverston and then the villages of Swarthmoor and Lindal.
      3. At the third roundabout after this take the first exit, signposted Furness General Hospital and Furness Abbey.
      4. At the next roundabout take the second exit.
      5. Pass Abbey House Hotel on the left and take the first turning on the left into Rating Lane.
      6. The College is 400 yards down Rating Lane on the left hand side.
