Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Nelson and Colne College

Course description

This course is a specialist, work-related programme of study aimed at those who have an interest in working in community sport and fitness centres. You will study a mixture of interesting modules such as principles of anatomy and physiology, the physiology of fitness and sports psychology, coaching and team sports, psychology for sports performance, nutrition and exercise, and leadership in sport. Students tend to progress onto university to study degrees in subjects such as Sports Therapy and Nutrition and Sports Coaching.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above (in a minimum of three different subject areas) including Maths and English or Level 2 Diploma and Level 2 Maths and English.

Assessment

The units are assessed using a variety of different methods including written assignments, PowerPoint presentations, group work, practical assessments and competency based assessments.

Future opportunities

Former students are studying at a number of universities including, the University of Central Lancashire, Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Northumbria, Edge Hill University studying interesting degrees in Sports therapy, Nutrition and Sports Coaching.

They go on to work as Physiotherapists, Coaches, Sport Development Managers, Teachers and Nutritionists to name but a few.
