Business Studies AS/A2 Level at Deyes High School

Course description

Business Studies lessons at Deyes High are varied, interesting and challenging with lively discussions. You will watch documentary material, read articles, work creatively with others and get involved in whole class discussions about the issues we study.

Business Studies is an interactive subject and you are encouraged to explore it and deepen your understanding in creative ways that fit the way that you learn best.

Course content

Business 1 and Business 2 Covering What Is Business?, Manager and Leadership Decision Making and Decision Making To Improve The Performance Of Marketing, Operational, Financial and Human Resources.

Business 3 Covering Analysing The Strategic Position Of a Business, Choosing Strategic Direction, How To Meet The Requirements Of Strategic Decision Making and Managing Strategic Change.

Entry requirements

At least a C grade in English and Maths.


There will one examination per unit. All units are examined in the summer examination series. The assessment focuses on key skills of knowledge, understanding, application, analysis and evaluation.

All papers have an equal weighting (i.e. each contributes 33.3% to the overall A level award. Business 1 contains three sections of multiple choice, short answer questions and data response stimuli. Business 2 is a compulsory case study with seven questions. Business 3 is one compulsory case study (different to that given in Business 2) followed by six questions. Each examination is two hours in duration.


Future opportunities

Careers include Business Management, Marketing, Sales, TV and Media, Legal Work and Accountancy. Nearly all of us will end up either working for someone else or going out into business on our own and our course gives full insight into business activities and decision making.
