Govt. & Politics A Level at The Campion School

Course description

You will learn about how the political systems of both the UK and USA have evolved and continue to evolve. You will build up an understanding of the different structures and processes of government in the context of current events and issues. This makes it a lively and ever-changing subject, where your opinions, and the ability to debate them, matter. As well as being interesting, it is a useful preparation for being a full citizen, with the right to vote and participate in the political process. Politics also offers students the opportunity to acquire or improve many of the skills necessary for university and employment.

Entry requirements

As well as the standard requirements for entry to the Sixth Form, you would need to have grade B or above in History or your English GCSEs. You do not have to have studied History at GCSE, but if you have, it is an advantage in that the Politics course builds on some of the topics that were touched on at GCSE.

Future opportunities

A whole variety of careers require the skills that you will acquire by studying Politics: journalism, law, the civil service, teaching, management, media, social work and banking. You may even become a politician or political adviser. The subject will equip you with skills which will be valuable in a wide variety of possible careers.
