Course description

Sociology is the study of society and of groups of people. This study adds real understanding to a student’s academic knowledge and their understanding of the world around them. Sociology equips students with the knowledge and language to challenge their own beliefs and perceptions of the society in which they live. This in turn will further students’ understanding of economic, social and political forces. Whilst the subject covers the important topics of gender, race, age and social class divisions, these specific course areas are as follows – A2 Level – Beliefs in Society; Global Development: Mass Media influence; Crime and Deviance; and Theory and Methodology.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses to prepare for higher education in one or more of the Social Sciences such as Sociology, Development Studies, Anthropology or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Sociology and people such as a Social Worker, Teacher, Social Researcher or a more general position working within the Social Services. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the health and social care sectors.
