Applied Science (Medical Science) Level 3 BTEC 90-Credit Diploma at Redbridge College
The 90-credit Diploma in Applied Science (Medical Science) develops core scientific skills in real context about forensic science, investigation, criminology and psychology. This intensive full time course is equivalent to one and a half full A-Levels and will prepare you for the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science in your second year or study.
You will enrol on the one year 90 Credit Diploma then, following your successful completion of the first year (to Merit standard), you will progress to the Medical Science – Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science at Redbridge College. The first year of your course (the 90 Credit) is equivalent to one and a half A-Levels and if you achieve two D*D* you will receive up to 210 UCAS points for entry to Higher Education.
Going on to complete the Extended Diploma in the second year will allow you to gain a qualification worth another one and a half A-Levels, bringing your UCAS points up to a potential 420.
Units you will study include
- Fundamentals of science
- Industrial chemical reactions
- Physiology of human body systems
- Scientific investigations
- Physiology of human regulation and reproduction
- Practical chemical analysis.
Plus a range of specialist units from the following list:
- Medical Physics Techniques
You will be expected to have four GCSEs at C grade or above, including English and maths, or equivalent vocational qualifications at Level 2.
You'll be taught by our highly skilled team of staff who will pass on their years of industry knowledge and experience to you. You will be assessed through coursework covering practical sessions in the laboratory, educational visits and written work. The emphasis will be on continuous assessment, rather than end-of-year examinations.
At the end of the course you'll be ready to progress to the second year of Medical Science – Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science. Once you have completed your Extended Diploma, you can progress to university, a Higher Apprenticeship in Science, or seek employment. The 90 Credit Diploma is equivalent to one and a half A-Levels, where you can achieve grades worth up to 210 UCAS points for entry to Higher Education.
