Music at The Chase School

Course description

Music is a highly regarded subject that is recognised by universities and employers as developing students’ communication, critical thinking and creative abilities, bringing together practical, intellectual and social skills in a way that few other subjects do.

* You will study music from both classical and popular traditions, learning to recognise and analyse a wide range of musical features in conventional and contemporary styles.
* You will extend your practical skills in solo and ensemble performances.
* You will develop your composition skills by studying a range of techniques and applying these to your own compositions. The compositions range from writing in the style of J.S. Bach to creating music for a film score.
* You will develop your music technology skills in recording and sequencing.

Entry requirements

Grade B or above in GCSE Music is advisable.

You may, however, take AS/A2 Music without having taken it at GCSE : if so, you must have Grade 5 both in theory and at least one instrument.

It is recommended that you have also achieved at least a B grade in GCSE English, although cases will be considered on an individual basis.
