Course description

A flexible approach where the specification is divided into topics, each covering different key concepts of chemistry.

Course content

Module 1: Development of Practical Skills in Chemistry

Module 2: Foundations in Chemistry

Module 3: Periodic Table and Energy

Module 4: Core Organic Chemistry

Module 5: Physical Chemistry and Transition Elements

Module 6: Organic Chemistry and Analysis

Entry requirements

  • GCSE Mathematics grade B or higher
  • GCSE subject specific grade required: GCSE Science minimum grades A, B
  • Pre-summer work required: Yes
  • Students who achieve lower than GCSE subject specific grade may be accepted at the teachers’ discretion


Teaching of practical skills is integrated with the theoretical topics and they are assessed both through written papers and practical endorsement.

Future opportunities

Chemistry A level can be used to find employment in many different areas including: medicine, veterinary science, engineering, law, environmental sciences, pharmaceutical industry, biological sciences and construction industry.
