Course description

This is your pathway to a professional career in the booming construction industry. There's a national skills shortage in construction, so salaries are high and there are plenty of opportunities. The course is aimed at those who aspire to a well paid future in Civil Engineering, Site Management, Surveying or many other professional roles. You'll gain an insight into the construction industry, from the planning stage through to the design and building of housing, industrial and commercial buildings. We've made a huge investment in state-of-the-art technology, so you'll be working with cutting edge equipment. We also have great links with employers in the industry.

Course content

The Level 3 BTEC National in Construction and the Built Environment will give you the practical and theoretical knowledge, skills and understanding you need to prepare for a career in the construction industry. It provides you with an overview of many areas of construction and will help you to decide on a specialism for university.

This course has the potential to lead to a range of careers in the construction industry including: Architect, Quantity Surveyor and Civil Engineer. The course is equivalent to three A Levels and can be used as a stepping stone to help you on your way to university. The construction industry makes up approximately 10% of the employment market which makes it one of the largest industries in the country. There is a shortage of skilled and qualified people in the construction industry. Core modules

  • Sustainable Construction
  • Construction Technology and Design
  • Science and Materials in Construction and Built Environment

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade A-C including Maths and English or successful completion of a Level 2 trade qualification plus A-C in Maths and English.


Written assignments, practical skills tests, guided assignment work and presentations.
