A2 - Biology at Chase Terrace Technology College

Course description

Humans are an influential part of this extraordinary planet. Understanding some of its many systems, cycles and complexities as well as our effect, both positive and negative, upon it is a valuable and interesting experience. Following the AQA Biology syllabus you will study 2 units per year as well as completing coursework assignments. The choice of the AQA exam board ensures continuity with your GCSE Science. Units completed in A2 Unit 5 - Control in cells and in organisms. Response to stimuli, coordination, muscles, homeostasis, negative feedback, DNA, gene expression, gene cloning technologies. Unit 3 - AS coursework (ISA) Unit 6 - A2 coursework (ISA) Units 1, 2 and 4 will be completed at AS level.

Entry requirements

Achieved grade BB or higher at GCSE Double Science or minimum grade C in Biology from single science with at least CC in Physics and Chemistry. Have a high level of mathematical competence, B grade or better ideally.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses, which overlap with Biology such as Chemistry, Applied Science, Physics, Geography, Geology or more general subjects that may not relate to the sciences, to prepare for higher education. With further training, you could go into a job related to Biology or one of the other sciences such as a Doctor, Nurse, Scientist or Marine Biologist. The course will also help you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
