Further Mathematics A Level at Kesteven and Sleaford High School Selective Academy

Course description

Students work towards the OCR Qualification and must also be studying for A-Level Mathematics. For an AS
in Further Mathematics students must be entered for 3 modules: Further Pure and two applied modules
(Usually Mechanics 1 and Mechanics 2).
The Further Pure Module develops the ideas from the Core Work of Mathematics considering Matrices,
Complex numbers and roots of an equation.
Mechanics work includes Newton’s laws of motion, projectiles and vectors.
To achieve an A2 award in Further Mathematics a total of six modules must be studied in addition to A-Level
Mathematics. Following the work in year 12 AS Further Mathematics students study Further Pure Mathematics
2, and two other applied modules (Usually Statistics 2 and Decision2 ).

The minimum requirement for entry to the Sixth form is 5 GCSEs at Grades A* to C including English and Mathematics. In addition we would strongly recommend at least an A in Mathematics and a passion for the subject!
